Our client is a holding based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with construction as its core business. It has worked extensively on studies to reduce the cost of construction on affordable housing for Ethiopia, using modern construction technologies in the country. As the company is significantly enlarging its scope of business and has secured an USD 8.5 billion contract to build new homes, the company is seeking to hire a highly experienced Chief Procurement Officer (m/f/d), permanently based in Addis Ababa. The Chief Procurement Officer (m/f/d) plays a vital role in the company's success by overseeing and optimizing its procurement processes. The future position holder (m/f/d) will be in charge of developing and executing procurement strategies, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring the availability of quality goods at competitive prices. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills, strategic thinking, and a track record of successful procurement management in large-scale construction projects.
Your duties and responsibilities will include:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive procurement strategy aligned with the company's overall business objectives and goals in Ethiopia
- Provide expertise and guidance on procurement strategies, supplier management, and cost optimization
- Develop and implement procurement policies, guidelines, and procedures
- Identify cost-saving opportunities, negotiating contracts and supplier agreements
- Collaborate with subsidiary CEOs to ensure timely and cost-efficient procurement of materials and services
- Oversee the implementation and utilization of procurement tools and systems to streamline operations
- Conduct supplier evaluations, monitoring performance and fostering strong supplier relationships
- Identify potential risks in the supply chain and develop risk mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions
- Implement sustainable procurement practices, considering environmental and social responsibilities
- Monitor market trends and supplier performance to make informed decisions that maximize value for the organization
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards in all procurement activities
To be successful in this role you should have the following skills and experiences:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Supply Chain Management
- At least 10 years of proven experience in a leadership role in procurement management
- Working experience in Africa is a requirement
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing procurement strategies that drive cost savings and operational efficiencies
- In-depth knowledge of procurement processes, contract negotiations, and supplier relationship management
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to effectively collaborate with internal stakeholders and suppliers
- A strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate market trends and proactively address supply chain challenges
- Familiarity with procurement software and tools for process automation and data analysis
- Willingness to be permanently based in Addis Ababa
