Our German, family-owned client provides complex technical solutions, systems and services to its international customers through a network and market presence in North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, as well as through global sales and service partners. The Southeast Asian market is managed and supported from the group company in Penang, Malaysia. The Chief Executive Officer's (CEO) major focus is the development of the two business units within the Asian focus markets Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia. The CEO will be in charge of the company's activities throughout Southeast Asia including driving sales, service and project delivery in line with a global strategy to ensure highest levels of customer satisfaction.

Your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and develop an established team to significantly grow revenue and profitability of the company throughout Southeast Asia.
  • Develop and implement a successful regional sales and service strategy as well as a commercial growth plan in the context of an overall global group strategy
  • Build an effective organization to implement the regional sales and service strategy
  • Be responsible for the P&L of the company, in a global group context
  • Evaluate and prioritize opportunities for the organizational development of both business segments in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia
  • Ensure all facets of the business are effectively managed
  • Work within a global governance framework that also covers decision making and reporting requirements
  • Grasp the technical complexity of the devices, systems, and services that the company designs, sells, installs, supports, and maintains around the globe
  • Understand and live the values, strengths, and characteristics within the family-owned group of companies
  • Proactively contribute towards the provision of a safe workplace, ensure that reasonable measures are taken to ensure compliance with WH&S policies and procedures for the health and safety of all employees, contractors and visitors in the workplace through assessment and elimination risks via hazard reporting and risk assessments
  • Contribute to and comply with all company employment and operational policies and procedures including, but not limited to, quality, safety, administration and information security
  • Act in a highly professional manner at all times, respecting and displaying a deep commitment and integrity to all customers and co-workers
  • Reporting to Group CEO, based in Germany

To be successful in this role you should have the following skills and experiences:

  • University degree in technology, e.g. Engineering, Science or IT
  • Proven success in a technical sales environment of complex products
  • At least 10 years of leadership and management experience in Southeast Asia
  • Working experience with German family-owned businesses would be advantageous
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written); German, Thai or Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia language skills are an added value
  • Trustworthy and reliable leader and motivator with a strong business acumen and customer-service focus
  • Structured, organized, strategical thinker with an understanding of family businesses
  • Ability to guide and motivate a team as well as to delegate and prioritize
  • A strong character with cultural sensitivity combined with assertiveness and passion for the company's mission 
  • Readiness and flexibility to travel domestically (e.g. visiting customers) and internationally (e.g. meetings at the head office in Germany)
  • Willingness to relocate to Penang, Malaysia
